President Andrew Johnson's veto was over rode by congress and the 14th Amendment was immediately passed due to the presidents resistance. The House of Representatives voted eleven articles of impeachment for Andrew Johnson. President Andrew Johnson was the first president in history to be impeached. President Abraham Lincoln gave Andrew Johnson a senator from Tennessee, the position of Military Governor, and was later elected Vice President of the United States. In April 1865, when President Abraham was assassinated, President Andrew Johnson made an act called Lehient Reconstruction policy for the South that was defeated. In February, President Andrew Johnson decided to remove Edwin M. Stanton once and for all in 1868(February 21). Over the president's veto, the Republican passed the Tenure of Office Act in March 1867. This bill did not allow the president to remove any officials form office, without the approval from the members of Johnson's Cabinet. President Andrew Johnson was impeached on February 24. His trial of impeachment happened on March 13. The trial ended on May 26.
