The Civil War was a long war that lasted for 3 years in the United States of America. The north and south had many disagreements on whether or not slaves should be legal. The southerners thought the that slaves should be legal. Only because they helped out with the farms really well. On the other hand, the northerners believed that slaves should be illegal. They did not believe in holding blacks hostage to work for no pay.
Abraham Lincoln went in office in 1860 to be the first republican president in the United States. He believed to keep slavery out of the territory states. Although, 7 south states disagreed and left the new nation to form the Confederate States of America. This soon triggered the Civil War.
